Toner is often more economical for regular, high-volume text printing, while ink can cost less for occasional printing or color-focused use. The right choice depends on verified page yields, cartridge prices, printer design, and your actual monthly volume.

If you print regularly, toner usually offers a lower and more predictable cost per page for high-volume text printing. Ink can be the better value for occasional printing, compact printers, photos, or color documents—especially when the printer uses high-yield cartridges or refillable ink tanks.

The only reliable way to compare them is to calculate cost per page using the cartridge’s verified price and stated yield. A cheap cartridge is not necessarily economical if its yield is low, and a more expensive XL cartridge may cost less over its usable life.
