ink tank

An ink tank is a printer ink supply format that uses a tank or reservoir rather than a conventional ink cartridge. Product listings may use the term to describe compatible supplies or printer systems.

What “ink tank” means

On CartridgeFit, ink tank describes an ink supply type or compatibility category. It generally refers to a printer system that uses an ink reservoir or tank instead of a conventional replaceable cartridge.

The term identifies the supply format; it is not a rating of print quality, capacity, reliability, or value.

Why it matters on CartridgeFit

CartridgeFit currently has published products marked with Ink tank as a compatible ink type or supply. This can help narrow results when you are matching a supply to an ink-tank printer or related component.

The label alone does not confirm that every ink-tank product fits every printer using tanks. For example, one catalog compatibility entry states that HP GT printheads work with the HP Smart Tank 455 and 457. That is a specific compatibility record, not a general compatibility claim for all ink-tank printers.

What the label does not tell you

An Ink tank label does not by itself tell you:

  • the tank or reservoir capacity;
  • the expected page yield;
  • whether the product is ink, a bottle, a printhead, or another supply component;
  • which printer models are supported;
  • whether black and colour supplies have the same specifications;
  • the product’s print quality or service life.

Some published listings include a page-yield footnote stating “Ink tank (black) - 35 pages / Ink tank (colour) - 30 pages.” The catalog contains this wording with minor spacing differences on two products. Treat that information as listing-specific; it should not be assumed to apply to every ink-tank product.

What to check on a product page

Check the product type first, then review the stated printer or component compatibility. Confirm the model number, colour information, and any page-yield details shown for that particular listing.

If a page only says Ink tank without a model range or other specifications, the available information is incomplete. Nearby concepts such as printhead, page yield, and ink type may provide useful context, but they do not replace a product’s specific compatibility details.
